Poster Guideliness

Freestanding bulletin boards will be provided for poster display. Two posters will be displayed on each side (back and front) of the 4-foot high by 6-foot wide bulletin board: i.e., the area for your poster is 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall. If you need a table please contactDr. Deborah Finkel at dfinkel@ius.edu or
(812) 941-2668. Each presenter will be limited to one poster. These may be mounted using push pins; the latter will be provided. Posters pre-mounted on foam board will be difficult to display; it is preferable to bring your poster in a format that can be mounted to a bulletin board with pushpins.

Presenters must stand by their poster during their scheduled poster session to answer questions and to provide additional information about the research project. Posters can be put up one half hour before the start of the session.

Presenters may consider bringing 25 copies of a handout that contains the project title, abstract, student researcher and faculty mentor's names, campus addresses, and email addresses to distribute to those who would like the information.

The directions below are recommendations only:

The sample poster (below) shows how a poster should be laid out. The poster may be laid out in landscape format (wider than higher) or portrait format (higher than wider). The poster must fit on the 3' by 4' area of the bulletin board. The text should include an abstract, an introduction, the methods used, a discussion section, and the conclusions. Be concise and stick to the main points of the project. Text size should be no smaller than 14 points. This includes the text in illustrations and on graphs and charts. All authors and their school and any research program, funding source, or other affiliation should be included on a banner across the top of the poster. If your poster can be accessed later on the web you should give the web site address on the top banner as well. The presenter for the poster should be indicated by a footnote or asterisk, which also appears on the banner.

Sample Poster Configuration

Use color in your presentation to enhance the attractiveness and readability of the poster. Pictures and illustrations, where appropriate, are better in color than in black and white. Lay out the poster to flow from one section to another so the reader can easily read through the text. Neatness is everything! You will be assigned a poster number in the printed conference program. Poster numbers will be affixed in a prominent position on the bulletin board.
